A New Wildflower Takes Root!

A new boutique motel, Wildflower, is beginning to grow on the northern California coast. Just as the spring wildflowers follow the winter rains, what was once a closed and deteriorating motel has been renamed, and will be totally remodeled and reimagined. The Wildflower’s interior and exterior will celebrate the beauty of the native plants found in Mendocino County. With the recent addition of the Point Arena-Stornetta Public Lands to the California Coastal National Monument, our small seaside town of Point Arena is blossoming as well!

We Are Building. . .

. . .  a memorable “home away from home” for our friends, old and new, whose travels bring them to this remote and ruggedly beautiful stretch of the Mendocino coast. We invite you to meander back to the website periodically to follow the Wildflower’s growing season. We hope to be in full bloom before the end of summer 2016 and look forward to seeing you here, at the Wildflower!

Beaches & Hiking Trails To Explore

Alder Creek Beach
Manchester State Park
Point Arena-Stornetta Public Lands

The San Andreas Fault crosses from land into sea at Alder Creek Beach, located at the northern end of Manchester State Park.  Alder Creek is a magnificent spot for steelhead fishing (license required).  Manchester State Park offers 18,000 feet of oceanfront sand dunes and grasslands, with more than three miles of uninterrupted sandy shoreline.  Just north of town are the bluff trails of the Point Arena-Stornetta Public Lands, a stunning area for whale watching, birding, and wildflowers.

Mother Nature has showcased her diversity right here in our backyard.  Whether you want to lace up your hiking boots or kick off the shoes and bury your toes in the sand, we can point you in the right direction.

Moat Creek Beach is a small rocky beach, located just south of Point Arena, and is a popular spot for surfers, kayakers and abalone divers.  Above the beach is a lovely bluff top trail, which overlooks the surfing spot known as “Whiskey Shoals.” The mysterious rows of boulders at Bowling Ball Beach are a sight to behold, but can only be seen at low tide.  Schooner Gulch State Beach is a sandy cove perfect for picnics and tide pools.
